President of Basque Visits Medford for Opening of New Progenika Lab
New lab is located at Rivers Edge in Medford.
High-tech pharmacutical company Progenika has moved its U.S. lab and offices from Cambridge to Medford.
Patxi Lopez, the president of the Basque region of Spain, was among the officials to tour the new 8,700 square foot facility, which includes three labs and office space.
Progenika, a pharmacutical development company, is based in Bilbao, Spain, with offices in Mexico and the United States. It's U.S. arm was opened at Boston University in its business incubation program, then moved to Kendall Square in Cambridge.

The move to Medford provides more office and storage space, as well as room to expand, said Christine Vietz, Progenika's director of technical operations.
"It gives us a great opportunity to expand moving forward," Vietz said.

The company employs about 150 worldwide, and currently six in the Medford location, with plans to expand in the near future, Vietz said.
