Here's five things. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.

Good morning, here are five things to know today:
1. School Technology Discussed: The school district's technology committee held a meeting Thursday with an official from Tec Edge, a company the city hired to review a technology overhaul for schools. As currently written, the plan calls for two $2 million phases, the first would upgrade about 2,000 computers. Medford schools haven't been upgrading their technology lately because of the bad economy, but following the full overhaul technology maintainance will be a line item in the school budget, Superintendent Roy Belson said. About 90 percent of the computers district-wide are between 9 and 12 years old. Return to Medford Patch later today for a full report from last night's meeting.
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council will issue a report by the end of the year that planners expect municipal officials in Medford and Somerville to use to decide how committed they are to running the rail to Route 16. "Our hope is the muncipalities will take it and think about things that could happen in that area," said Kate Fichter, Green Line Extension project manager for MassDOT.
