U.S. Rep. Edward Markey, who represents Medford in Congress, won the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate special election to replace John Kerry. Cohasset businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez won the Republican primary.

Markey and Gomez both received the most votes in Medford balloting Tuesday, where there was just a 23 percent turnout.

New Medford Bicycle Commission Announced

The city recently announced the 15 new members of the Medford Bicycle Advisory Commission. The new commission will be tasked with surveying riders, mapping the city, connecting paths currently in place, and working to improve education for riders and for motorists.

Improvements are coming to three of Medford's parks. Columbus Park improvements are coming in June. They include a new field, a new batting cage, two new dugouts, new fences, a new storage unit and a new scoreboard among others.

At Morrison and Hickey Parks, there will be new curb ramps, crosswalks and sidewalks with new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant accessibility routes.
