Canadian Earthquake Felt in Melrose

No reports of any damage according to city's emergency management director.

Three weeks ago it was Canadian wildfires that made their presence felt in Melrose. Today, it's a Canadian earthquake.

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck Ontario, Canada at 1:41 p.m. on Wednesday that, according to reports on the U.S. Geological Survey website, was felt throughout the northeast U.S., including in Melrose.

Ed Kelly, director of the city's Emergency Management Agency, said that employees in the auditor's office at City Hall felt shaking from the earthquake.

"MEMA (Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency) sent out a bulletin asking for any disturbance, shaking or damage from the earthquake," Kelly said. "I haven't gotten any reports.

"Other than the fact I want to evacuate (City Hall) and going home," he joked.
