MELROSE, MA — Melrose is looking to add new personalized bricks to its Vietnam Veterans' Reflection Area memorial this fall.

The brick program aims to give families a way to honor veterans in their lives, living or deceased, with an inscribed brick. The city highlighted brick opportunities last week, announcing that bricks bought before Oct. 14 will be added to the memorial before this year’s planned Melrose Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11.

Bricks cost $150 and are 4 inches by 8 inches, with space for three lines of text. Focused on the Veterans' Reflection Area at the Melrose Knoll, the brick program is open to all families of veterans, with red bricks denoting Vietnam veterans and gray bricks denoting other service.

Those interested in purchasing a personalized brick should return a completed order form and a check made out to “City of Melrose” to the Veterans' Services Office. Checks should include “Vietnam Reflection Area” in the memo line. The Veterans’ Services Office is located on the second floor of the Milano Center at 201 West Foster St. in Melrose.

“The tradition of placing bricks at the reflection area gives our community the opportunity to honor the courageous men and women of Melrose who served our country,” Mayor Paul Brodeur said in a statement last week. “A commemorative brick is one way of thanking them for their commitment to our country.”

He continued, saying the city looks forward to additional ways to honor veterans through community events, the work of the Council on Aging and the work of the Veterans Services Department.
