Melrose Apologizes For Early Morning Phone Call

The automated call accidentally sent to residents at 6 a.m. on Sunday was meant to send at 6 p.m., the city said.

MELROSE, MA — The city of Melrose apologized on Sunday for an early morning phone call that prompted frustration among some residents over the weekend.

The automated call went out around 6 a.m. on Sunday morning, telling residents that city offices would be closed on Monday due to Indigenous Peoples Day. In its statement hours later, the city said the call was intended to go out at 6 p.m.

“We are sorry for those who were awoken at this time, especially on a holiday weekend,” the city said. “We recognize that healthy sleep is a crucial component to our residents' wellbeing, which is of most importance to the City of Melrose. We appreciate your feedback and understanding.”

City offices will reopen on Tuesday after being closed on Monday. Curbside trash and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day as a result of the holiday this week.
