Melrose Celebrates National Night Out
The event was part of the National Night Out initiative, which coordinates events across the country each year.
MELROSE, MA - Community members gathered at Pine Banks Park in Melrose on Tuesday night to celebrate the return of the city’s National Night Out festivities.
Back for the first since 2019, this year’s event was a welcome chance to celebrate, Melrose Police Lieutenant Paul Norton told Patch.
“It’s really nice to get it back going and get into it,” he said. “Next year will be even better.”

Similar events took place in thousands of communities across the country on Tuesday as part of the National Night Out initiative. Events all share the stated goal of improving relationships between public safety personnel and the communities they serve.
In Melrose, festivities showcased public safety agencies around a touch-a-truck event. First responders and other public safety personnel were on hand alongside an array of vehicles.

“It’s going to help us build a relationship with our community,” Norton said of the value of National Night Out.
Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur and Melrose Police Chief Michael Lyle both spoke similarly of the program in comments last month ahead of this event.
"One of the best ways to build a safer community is to know your neighbors, your surroundings and your public safety workers," Brodeur said in his statement.
