From our humble beginnings at a table on Congress Street during Portland's First Friday Artwalk, we've grown into a beloved household service with a big climate impact. Today, we service more than 40,000 households, schools, restaurants, businesses, and events across the region. We're expanding our reach with the vision of bringing convenient curbside composting to communities throughout New England. Our ethos is simple: make composting approachable, convenient, and impactful while supporting local economies. Through our work, we're tackling one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions—food waste in landfills—and turning it into a resource that nourishes the region's soil and farms.

MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Cultural Council is accepting grant applications<a href="https://melroseculture.org/apply" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> online</a> from now through Thursday, Oct. 16.Each year, the Melrose Cultural Council is given a certain amount of grant money by the Massachusetts Cultural Council in which it is used to fund various enrichment initiatives throughout the city. The council is comprised of nine members, two of which are student representatives from the district. For 2026, it is prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion. The priority was decided based on the results of a <a href="https://patch.com/massachusetts/melrose/melrose-wants-community-input-its-artistic-cultural-future">community outreach survey</a>.The Council is seeking proposals for community-oriented arts, cultural, and interpretive sciences events and programming with broad public benefit and impact that will take place in the calendar year of 2026. The council recently became able to fully fund projects, so that applicants will not have to seek additional funding sources. A total of 32 grants were awarded in last year's cycle, totaling approximately $38,000.
