The Book Has Reopend For The Melrose Public Library

The building was closed for an extended period while it was being renovated.

MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Public Library officially re-opened this week after a more than two-year renovation process.

City leaders gathered at 69 West Emerson St. at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The project cost nearly $21 million in total. It featured the construction of a brand new wing, restoration of some of the library’s oldest components dating back to 1904 such as woodwork, windows, and fireplaces. The new wing reportedly includes large meeting spaces, computers, and a children’s room with a skylight. The main entrance is now located between the restored historic portion of the library and the brand-new portion. The parking lot has green-painted spaces dedicated to environmentally friendly vehicles.

In the construction interim, the Beebe School on 263 West Foster St. served as a temporary space for the library to operate out of.
