Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur Will Not Seek Reelection In November

MELROSE, MA – Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur will not seek reelection in November, he announced on Monday.
In a letter to the Melrose community, Brodeur called the decision, which came after weeks of thought and reflection, “very difficult.”
Brodeur grew up in Melrose and has been involved in elected service since 2001 when he ran for the board of Alderman and took office in January 2002. He spent nine years on the board before becoming Massachusetts state representative in 2011, and in mayor of Melrose in 2019.

He called his role as mayor “the greatest honor of my professional life” and pointed to the Melrose community as his strongest resource.
Brodeur said he looks forward to spending more time with his family and friends and to finding new ways to serve the public interest.

“I will always be grateful to the residents of Melrose for putting their trust in me and for having the opportunity to help shape the future of our community,” Brodeur said in the letter.
