Melrose Mayor’s Office Seeking Volunteers For Tax Relief Committee

The new committee would help implement the city's Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Program.

MELROSE, MA – The Melrose Mayor’s Office is looking for three volunteers to serve on the Melrose Tax Relief Committee, a new committee created to help implement the city’s Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Program.

The Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Program, established by the city in 2018, allows taxpayers to voluntarily donate money to cover the real estate taxes of elderly and disabled residents of low income.

The Tax Relief Committee will be responsible for adopting rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of the program and will decide on the recipients of the aid.

The committee will be made up of the chair of the board of assessors, the city treasurer and collector, and three Melrose residents appointed by Mayor Brodeur.

“Once this committee is formed, this program will provide targeted relief for our older adults and residents with disabilities who are struggling to pay their property taxes,” Mayor Brodeur said in a news release. “Our residents, who are always generous when it comes to supporting neighbors in need, have already begun contributing to this fund, raising nearly $3,000.”
