MELROSE, MA — The city will receive more than $750,000 to fund numerous projects throughout the city through a statewide transportation bond law.

Mayor Jen Grigoraitis was one of many mayors who joined Gov. Maura Healey for the ceremonial signing of the Chapter 90 law. The law includes a 50% increase to base funding for the Chapter 90 local road and bridge maintenance program, $200 million authorization to support a culvert and small bridge program, $500 million for MassDOT bridge and pavement asset management, and $185 million for congestion and safety initiatives. Melrose is slated to receive a total of $761,294 to pay for roadway, sidewalk, and accessibility improvements on Sewall Woods Road, Porter Street, and Maple Road.
“Especially in a season of municipal budget challenges, state roadway funding ensures that we can keep up our roads and make them safe for all users,” Grigoraitis said.
