Melrose Schools Revealing Return To Instruction Plan This Week
The district will release the first draft of its plan no later than Saturday. The state is asking in-person learning be prioritized.

MELROSE, MA — Melrose Public Schools families will get their first look at what the new school year may look like by the end of the week.
Superintendent Julie Kukenberger will share the first draft of the MPS Return To Instruction Plan by Saturday at the latest, she confirmed to Patch. The district's return to instruction timeline says the leadership team is spending all week in the planning process.
The initial return plan will be publicly presented at Tuesday night's School Committee meeting.

The district will spend the end of July gathering feedback from students, families and staff before submitting its plan to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on July 31. It will indicate to the state what model — in-person learning, remote learning or a hybrid — the district is leaning toward.
DESE has asked districts to prioritize an in-person return to class, while President Trump has demanded it. But as many experts predict a second surge of COVID-19 in the fall, districts across the state and country are taking different approaches.

Melrose has had at least 270 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 27 deaths related to the virus.
Last week, a student on the football team tested positive for COVID-19. His mother said his symptoms were mild.
