5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 1

Foxwoods Massachusetts is hosting an information session on its casino application tonight at the Portuguese Club. The session is open to the public.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Do you have questions about the casino? Foxwoods Massachusetts will host two public meetings this week for residents who want to know more about its proposed casino for Milford. The first, tonight, is at the Portuguese Club. The second is Tuesday at the Doubletree Hotel in Milford. Both sessions begin at 6:30 p.m.

2. Fino Memorial Pool could open as soon as today for the summer. A final decision is expected to be made early this morning. Patch will update its story on the opening of pools when we know.

3. One of the biggest events in Milford is this week: the July 4 fireworks will be held Wednesday night at 10 p.m., weather permitting. The rain date is July 5.

4. If you have a dog in Milford, they require an annual license. The deadline for licenses was June 30 but they are still available at the Milford Town Clerk's office. Cats don't require licenses.

5. Do yo have a cat? A low-cost spay and neuter program for cats will be held July 18 in Milford, sponsored by the nonprofit Milford Humane Society. The cost is $75 for males, $85 for females, and includes surgery, a physical exam, Rabies shot and pain medication injection. See the announcement for more details.
