5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 26
Amy Durand of Milford has received recognition for her leadership efforts through the American Red Cross.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Amy Durand, a resident of Milford, has received the 2013 Herbert E. Cook award, given by the Disaster Services department of the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. The award is given to a volunteer who demonstrates dedication, skills and excellence in a leadership role. Durand is the regional disaster dispatcher team leader, and ensures that the Red Cross effectively dispatches disaster volunteer teams to all disasters in Eastern Massachusetts.
2. Town officials announced a slight revision to the proposed schedule of community information meetings on the Foxwoods Massachusetts casino. All of the meetings will be held at Milford High School, to allow live transmission of the meeting over cable TV.

3. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold a meeting Thursday, and the agenda includes a briefing for commissioners on the process to vet the suitability of gaming applicants. The background investigations, part of the first phase of the resort casino application, should be completed by the end of August for the resort casino applicants.
4. The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra's Family Night at the Bandstand summer concert series has kicked off. The free concerts at Milford Town Park will run for the next eight weeks, with the exception of July 2.

5. The temperatures should dip a little bit on Wednesday, enough to get Milford down below 90 degrees for the first time in three days.
