5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 27

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations

1. The Milford Selectmen will hold a special meeting today, to walk through the neighborhoods of east Milford, near the proposed Foxwoods Massachusetts casino site. A group of town residents near the site asked selectmen to physically walk their neighborhood at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, to show how close they will be to the development.

2. The Sen. P. Eugene Casey Memorial Pool will open on Saturday for the summer. An opening date has yet to be scheduled for Fino Field Memorial Pool, which is being painted this week. An opening should be announced soon, though.

3. Town officials received a complaint recently that the "No truck or van parking" sign on North Bow Street was not clear enough. People with SUVs and pickup trucks objected when they received tickets. The intent of the sign, Town Engineer Vonnie Reis said, is to prevent large vehicles from parking there, so that vehicles turning left out of Court Square can see oncoming traffic. So, a new sign will be installed that clears things up: "Compact Cars Only".

4. Benjamin Moore Paints recently contributed a gift of $2,500 to the Milford Police, for betterment of the department purposes.

5. Music & Arts on Main Street has recently renewed its lease, and to celebrate and thank the customers of Milford, it will hold a free public event, including music and giveaways. The event will take place on the sidewalk in front of the store, at 164 Main St., on Aug. 10. It will also take place in the parking area behind the store.
