5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 28
A national relay race to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings will come through the Milford area Sunday.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. If you are a runner, consider entering the One Run for Boston Relay, which is heading from California to Boston, with runners jumping in for five to six mile legs. The Massachusetts relay is June 30 and will end in downtown Boston. The final leg has more than 600 runners participating, but the relay sections in Uxbridge, Mendon, Upton and Hopkinton could use some more legs.
2. Cornerstone at Milford, the assisted living facility under construction on Medway Road, at Birch Road, is preparing for its open house. The facility will have previews of a model apartment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 11 to 14.
3. The Fresh Air Fund will be sending children from New York City to live for several weeks this summer with families in Milford and surrounding towns. The first group of children will arrive on July 11, with another group of children heading to host families in early August.
4. Construction has begun on an addition to the former Doc's Sports Bar & Grille on East Main Street, which will become the new home of the Imperial Buffet, and a retail store. The demolition of pavement to make way for new retail construction began this week.
5. Heavy rain is in the forecast for Friday, and rain and thunderstorms are expected through the weekend into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
