Cat Hit By Car Clung To Life Under Porch, Now Needs Home

This little girl was hit by a car and ran under a porch, critically injured. A Good Samaritan heard her cries. Now she is healing.

This cat was surely near death. But a good Samaritan heard faint cries when returning to a home in Lawrence, followed those sounds, and found a cat cowering underneath the porch stairs. The cat was cold, hungry and critically injured, said the MSPCA.

The cat was rushed to the MSPCA-Nevins Farm, where staffers were able to evaluate her.

The good Samaritan likely saved the cat's life, say experts from the MSPCA. "Samosa," which she was named by those who took her in, had fractures to her right elbow and her pelvis, likely from being struck by a fast-moving car. To add to the misery, she likely had been hit at least a week prior to being found.

Nevins Farm adoption center manager Meaghan O'Leary arranged for Samosa to be seen by the veterinary team at Angell Animal Medical Center the next day.

According to MSPCA's announcement, Angell's Dr. Emily Ulfelder confirmed that Samosa was in very rough shape upon arrival. "Aside from the fractures-which are critical in their own right and ultimately not survivable if left untreated-she was anemic and very weak due to extensive internal bleeding," she said in a statement.

One of her injuries was so severe and uncommon that Dr. Ulfelder had never actually seen it outside of textbooks. "She had what's called an 'avulsion fracture' to her elbow-a very serious fracture that would have no chance of healing without surgery," she said in a statement.

One day before Thanksgiving, Ulfelder along with the surgery team screwed plates into the front and back of Samosa's pelvis and operated on her elbow. On Friday, Samosa returned to Nevins Farm, where she is still recovering and up for adoption.
