Everett Votes on Wynn Casino Proposal
Residents of the city of Everett are voting Saturday in a special election.

Everett residents will decide today whether they want a $1.2 billion resort casino for their city, to be constructed and operated by Wynn Resorts.
The ballot question is the first in the state to go to voters, following approval by the legislature of expanded gaming.
The city and casino developer have negotiated a host community agreement that will provide $30 million to the city before the casino opens, for community projects, and $25.2 million annually in real estate taxes and other fees.

Polls are open in Everett from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Neither the city of Boston nor Milford has reached an agreement with the casino developers, so no vote has been scheduled in these communities. The special election on Tuesday is for the selection of a U.S. Senator. No casino referendum is on the Milford ballot, Milford Town Clerk Amy Hennessey Neves emphasized on Friday.
The decision on the single resort casino license will be made by the state's Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
