MILFORD, MA — Milford this week will begin accepting applications from town residents who want to fill a recent vacancy on the School Committee.

Two-term member James Ligor stepped down from the committee effective at the end of July. The Select Board and School Committee will hold a joint meeting on Aug. 23 to pick his replacement.

Ligor announced his resignation at the July 29 School Committee meeting. He will remain in the school system, however, as the district's Director of Community Use and Transportation.

"I also want to thank the community for trusting me to be on this committee," he said at the meeting. "These have been some of the most incredibly endearing and special years of my life."

Ligor first won his seat in 2016, coming in second in a four-way race. He won reelection in 2019 coming in first in a six-way race.

Anyone interested in filling the role has to be a resident and registered voter. Letters of interest can be sent to either Town Administrator Richard Villani or the Milford School Committee. The person selected for the job will serve until the April 2022 election. The replacement committee member can run for the seat.
