Milford Elected Official Arrested For Setting Brush Fires: Police
Scott Vecchiolla, 50, is a sitting library trustee, and ran for a seat on the planning board this spring.

MILFORD, MA — An elected Milford official was arrested and charged this week in connection to a series of brush fires set across town, according to police.
Scott Vecchiolla, 50, was arrested Wednesday on four counts of burning land, trees, lumber or produce, Milford police said in a news release Thursday. Milford police said Vecchiolla admitted to setting a series of "recent and past brush fires."
Vecchiolla did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday evening.

Vecchiolla ran for a seat on the planning board this year, and was previously a member of the Trustees of Vernon Grove Cemetery until his resignation in January 2022. He was elected to a seat on the library trustees board in 2021, and his term ends in 2024.
Vechiolla won the 2021 library trustees seat in a three-way race with Marco Bon Tempo and James Sherman. Vechiolla earned the second-highest number of votes in the race.

The investigation into the fires was conducted jointly by Milford police and the fire department. A police spokesperson was not immediately available Thursday evening to provide details about where and when the fires took place.
