Milford Students Can Go Whale Watching With New Science Grant
New opportunities for students will begin in the fall.
MILFORD, MA — Starting in the Fall, students at Milford High School will get the chance to visit local watersheds and go whale watching with a new science grant.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration grant is meant to support hands-on learning for students and faculty, according to Milford Public Schools. Teachers will get to learn more about science’s local impact, and students will take on several research projects.
Austin Costa, one of the school’s science teachers, will lead the courses. Students enrolled in Zoology, Wildlife Conservation and Marine Biology will go on field trips to local watersheds, like the Narragansett Bay. They will also learn how Milford is connected to waterways nearby.

Students will also get a chance to find out more about whales in Massachusetts, with the help of another conservation group focused specifically on marine life.
“This project benefits both students and the local community," said Costa. "We get to see firsthand how actions in our own community in the middle of Massachusetts can impact some of the largest and most beautiful creatures in the ocean. It really brings the science home.”
