Milford Library Board To Meet Over Criminal Charges Against Vecchiolla
The closed-session meeting comes after elected member Scott Vecchiolla's arrest in late May in connection to a series of brush fires.

MILFORD, MA — The Board of Library Trustees will meet this week in executive session to discuss the recent arrest of elected member Scott Vecchiolla.
Vecchiolla was arrested May 24 and charged with four counts of burning land, trees, lumber or produce, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office. Milford police have said Vecchiolla admitted to setting a series of recent and past brush fires.
The library trustees executive session meeting on Thursday only has a single agenda item: "Discussion of the criminal charges pending against Library Trustee Scott Vecchiolla."

It's unclear if the board will take any votes around the arrest, but Town Counsel Brian Murray has said elected officials can only be deposed through a recall election. Milford does not have any law requiring elected officials accused of crimes to resign automatically. Vecchiolla had not resigned from his seat as of Monday, according to the town clerk.
Vecchiolla was elected to the library board seat in 2021, and his term ends in 2024. He was previously an elected member of the Trustees of Vernon Grove Cemetery, but he resigned from the role in January 2022. He also ran for a seat on the Milford Planning Board this spring.

Under the state's open meeting law, executive session meetings are not open to the public, but public boards can later release executive session minutes.
