MILFORD, MA — A family in Milford was presented with a Medal of Liberty in honor of a local veteran who died more than 80 years ago.

Michael Shain recieved the medal in honor of his great uncle Harry Baram of Mattapan, who was part of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. The Medal of Liberty is an official award given to next of kin of Massachusetts service members who were killed in action, in a combat area or from wounds recieved in action.

On Dec. 17, 1942, Braham died in the line of duty when the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter "Natsek" capsized during an ice storm. All 24 people on board died, according to Shain.
