Milford Marks 11th Overdose Linked To Mixed Cocaine: Police

The overdoses are linked to cocaine that has been cut with either fentanyl or benzodiazepines, officials said.

MILFORD, MA — Following an overdose over the weekend, Milford police and local addiction recovery specialists are reminding residents about an ongoing safety hazard linked to cocaine cut with other substances.

An 11th overdose linked to cocaine mixed with either fentanyl or benzodiazepines happened Saturday, police said. One person has died in the wave of cocaine-linked overdoses since January, according to police.

Over five days in January, Milford saw eight drug overdoses linked to the tainted cocaine.

Milford police said that no only are drug users accidentally ingesting dangerous drugs alongside cocaine, they may also be getting addicted to opioids.

"Fentanyl is a highly dangerous substance that even in small amounts can lead to a fatal overdose, so we urge all residents, health care providers, recovery workers and outreach workers to remain vigilant for signs of opioid overdose, including among individuals who use cocaine," Milford-area recovery coach and member of the Milford police family services unit Amy Leone said in a news release.
