The Milford Police Department announced Thursday that it plans to boost checks on local liquor establishments in town to help combat underage drinking.The department received a $5,000 grant to help with the effort, one of 76 police departments to receive such a fund, according to Milford Police Lt. James Falvey.The money, Falvey said in a statement, "will fund a variety of law enforcement activities including stings/compliance checks for minors in bars, restaurants and retail locations; reverse stings; 'shoulder tap' and 'Cops in Shops' programs; and party patrols."Plain-clothed police officers are expected to conduct the compliance checks during the month of September throughout Milford, according to the announcement.
