Milford Teen Awarded $5K For Girl Scout Project On Endangered Animals

MILFORD, MA — A Milford teen earned a five-thousand-dollar scholarship for a special project.

After years of hard work, Arizona State University student Cecilia "Cee-Cee" Deslaurier-Tate successfully earned a Girl Scout Gold Award. Her documentary, which raised awareness about endangered wildlife, earned her the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

The film, titled “A Leading Lady's Legacy: How Amanda Blake Set the Stage for the Conservation of the ‘Furried, Feathered and Fuzzied," is based on Blake, a late actress and animal activist. She starred as Miss Kitty Russell in the western television show "Gunsmoke."

Deslaurier-Tate's documentary, which aired on local television, garnered attention nationally.

Each year, the Girl Scouts of the USA selects just one Gold Award Girl Scout from each council to give scholarship money, which Deslaurier-Tate recieved.

Deslaurier-Tate said her scholarship will go toward her studies at ASU, where she majors in entrepreneurial leadership and theater.

“My years in Girl Scouting and the pursuit of my Gold Award have led me through a journey of discovery—of who I am and of whom I wish to become,” said Deslaurier-Tate.
