Senators Concerned With Anticipated Milford Plant Closing

MILFORD, MA— Following efforts to keep Ardagh Glass open in the face of an anticipated plant closure, State Senator Ryan Fattman, D-Sutton, and State Representative Brian Murray, D-Milford, are working with the Department of Career Services to help guarantee impacted employees will have the assistance they need, according to an announcement from the senators.

“In conjunction with the Baker-Polito Administration, it is our hope to ensure those affected by this closing will have support throughout the entire process in order to make sure they have a smooth transition,” said Fattman in a statement.

The DCS Rapid Response team will help ease the transition for employees by providing reemployment services such as job counseling, on-site unemployment insurance assistance, and health care information sessions. Additionally, the response team will help employees assess opportunities in the Massachusetts Career Center system with job opportunities and job retraining, said the press release.

“We really need to do everything possible to assist the employees to find alternative employment opportunities in light of this unfortunate decision by Ardagh, which will have such a negative and devastating impact on them and their families,” said Murray in a statement.

The Ardagh Group, which employs 250 people in their Milford bottling plant, is set to close after March 31.
