FauxMenco (Catherine Capozzi and Rafi Sofer) strive to create exciting nylon string guitar dreamscapes that are propulsive and timeless. Their sound draws on flamenco, surf, manouche, rock, metal, and classical influences. In addition to performing, Catherine is an award-winning film composer and producer, and Rafi is an engineer/producer at Q Division Studios and teaches in the Music Production and Engineering department at Berklee. First Church Friday Folk Coffeehouse presents its 5th concert of the 2025-2026 season featuring The Savin Hillbillies at First Church and Parish Dedham, 670 High Street, Dedham on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 7:30 pm in the Parish House Auditorium. There will be refreshments for purchase. Tickets are $15 and are available online at <a href="https://www.dedhamuu.org/concerts-at-first-church-and-parish-dedh" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Folk Coffeehouse |dedhamuu</a> and at the door. Doors open at 7:00 pm. In case of inclement weather, this concert might be canceled the day before the performance. The Savin Hillbillies are a five-piece ensemble playing old-time Country &amp; Western and Irish songs tailor-made for foot-stomping, howling, clapping, and of course, singing along. Featuring the songs of Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, the Clancy Brothers and the Wolftones, and many, many more, the band’s spirited approach to performance is matched by their dedication to sharing that music with their audience. The energetic quintet consists of: Bill Walczak on guitar/accordion/vocals; James Hanford on fiddle; Jonathan Keller on standup bass fiddle; Joseph Lutz on banjo/vocals and Rob Atterbury on guitar/vocals.
First Church and Parish Dedham Unitarian Universalist was first gathered in 1638 and is located in Dedham Center at 670 High Street. Its lively music program includes choir at Sunday services, the Parish Players theater troupe, and the First Church Jazz &amp; Classical Concerts series, in addition to our Friday Folk Coffeehouse events.

This retreat for writers of all levels ages 16+ will feature hours of uninterrupted writing time on a sofa in the parlor of this 1878 Gilded Age mansion, a window seat in the library, or one of many other picturesque locations. <a href="https://www.jennifercrystal.com/home" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Jennifer Crystal</a>, author of One Tick Stopped the Clock, will discuss how to give a personal story—like her years-long struggle with Lyme disease—universal appeal. She will be available to answer your writing questions one-on-one. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss your work with fellow participants and to explore the estate grounds. Jazz bassist Max Ridley and singer, songwriter, and fiddle player Zoe Rose Depaz will play an intimate duo set featuring original music that draws on their diverse musical backgrounds and inventive covers of folk and Americana tunes. Max is among the most in-demand bassists on Boston's jazz scene, and he's released several albums as a bandleader. Zoe's 2022 solo debut Garden&nbsp;features original songwriting that blends folk, blues, soul, and country. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. for refreshments and time to explore the house museum. The concert starts at 5:00 p.m. Historic new England members: $25. Non-members: $35. Wintersounds Concert: Max Ridley and Zoe Rose Depaz

Warm to the music of Catherine Bent’s Brasil Sonoroso featuring Catherine Bent, Rob Curto, and Seba Ramírez. Catherine is a pioneering cellist in the Brazilian musical traditions of Choro and Forró, an associate professor at Berklee and a faculty member at Choro Camp New England. Rob  (accordion and vocals) helped introduce Choro and Forró to international audiences as part of the bands Forró in the Dark and Forró For All.  Percussionist Seba  Ramírez is a graduate of Berklee’s Global Jazz Institute and is steeped in jazz, Paraguayan, Brazilian, and other South American rhythm traditions.

On Saturday, 2/28, starting at 2 PM, there will be a first Spring concert held in the library's Keys Room.&nbsp; This will be an inspiring and celebratory musical event which is great for all ages.&nbsp;&nbsp;Talented pianist and Berklee College of Music Prof. George W. Russell, Jr. will accompany the amazing vocalist Prof. Emerita Donna McElroy&nbsp;at this program.&nbsp; These two music powerhouses will love entertaining us in this hour-long presentation, to share a diverse repertoire including gospel, pop and jazz.&nbsp;
 Prof. Russell is Chair of the Harmony and Jazz Composition Dept. at Berklee, and who plays equally well solo and with large ensembles.&nbsp; George has received numerous awards for excellence in both teaching and performance.&nbsp; He also was chief musician for Jubilee (formerly New Covenant) Christian Church in Boston for 15 years.&nbsp; Prof. McElroy is an incredible singer who retired in 2021 after 24 years from teaching at Berklee.&nbsp; In addition to working as an arranger and background vocalist on gold and platinum releases, Donna received the 1993 "Best Actress Award" for her Circle Players' performance as Sister Mary Regan in "Nunsense."&nbsp; &nbsp;She was also the recipient of a Grammy nomination for "Bigger World" (WB).
