Milton Students Score Higher Than Average On MCAS Test

Students in the Milton School District outdid the state average on the MCAS test in all grades and subject areas this year.

MILTON, MA — Massachusetts has released results of the latest MCAS test, which is used by the state as a guide to measure students' academic performance. In the Milton School District, all grades tested higher than the state average, in all subjects.

In 10th-grade math, 74 percent of Milton students met or exceeded expectations, compared to the state average of 59 percent. An in English, 76 of them at least met expectations, while the state average was 61 percent. In science, 91 percent of Easton's 10th-graders met or exceeded expectations, and the state average was 74 percent.

Easton's younger students also outdid the state average on the MCAS test, according to the results released Tuesday. Sixty-nine percent of Milton's fifth- through eighth-graders met or exceeded expectations in math, while the state average was 49 percent. And in English, 71 percent of Milton students in those grades at least met expectations, compared to the state average of 52 percent.

In science, 65 percent of Milton students in grades five and eight met or exceeded expectations on the MCAS, and the state average was 48 percent.
