Yesterday was Ben & Jerry's annual Free Cone Day, an event that has taken place every year since 1979 in Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops across the country, and the Natick Scoop Shop was filled with people who came from Natick and other towns throughout the area to get a taste of their favorite flavors.

The line to get ice cream was out the door and around the side of the building, but it moved fast as employees directed people where to go while also going around asking for donations for A Place to Turn. This was the fourth year that Free Cone Day benefited A Place to Turn here in Natick, according to store owner Stephen Marcus, who also said that between 5,000-6,000 people have come from ice cream in previous years on Free Cone Day.

"How could you not support a cause like that," said Marcus, who has owned the store since July, 2011.

Volunteers from A Place to Turn were also at Ben & Jerry's helping out yesterday, making it a true team effort.

"Without business owners like Stephen, we wouldn't exist," said Joanne Barry, Executive Director of A Place to Turn.

The Natick Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop is among the busiest in the nation, as they're number 1 in cake sales and also in the top 10 in catering as well. Last year they raised $1,700 for A Place to Turn, and this year the goal was $2,500.
