Inmates Clean Up The Natick Housing Authority
A team of four inmates from the Community Work Program landscaped the 27-building, 258-unit Cedar Gardens complex in West Natick.

NATICK, MA—Inmates from the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office were at Natick Housing Authority on July 2, 3, 5 and 6, cleaning and beautifying its properties for the summer. A team of four inmates from the Community Work Program landscaped the 27-building, 258-unit Cedar Gardens complex in West Natick.
“The Community Work Program is designed to benefit both our inmates and our communities,” said Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian in a statement. “Our local towns have the opportunity to complete a project that they may otherwise be able to, and those in our custody get to re-acclimate to the daily work schedule that will help them succeed when they reenter the workforce.”
CWP completes projects requested by municipalities, school districts, housing authorities and other similar entities. The crews are inmates nearing the end of their sentences who have completed individualized treatment plans – such as programming for substance use disorders, educational/vocational training and other needs – and have been screened and approved for participation by MSO staff, according to the announcement.

“I was very pleased and impressed with the hard work and the way this crew performed. The weather conditions where challenging but the men had a great attitude throughout the week. I would welcome the use of this program for future projects,” NHA Executive Director Randy Waters in a statement.
The Sheriff’s CWP is provided at minimal costs to communities throughout Middlesex County. So far this year crews have completed work in 26 Middlesex County communities, including Weston, Holliston and Waltham.
