NATICK, MA — Big things are happening for Level99, the Natick-started company that brings video games to life.

Level99 opened in Natick in 2021 and has since drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Natick Mall location, including more than 400,000 in 2023.

Locally, the Natick location is getting a major refresh, with 10 new challenge rooms now open.

But Level99 is also expanding this week, as the company opened a new Providence location at Providence Place.

The 40,000 sq. ft. venue holds 43 rooms and features food from Night Shift Brewing Kitchen & Tap, serving 300 diners from a scratch kitchen, officials said. It replaces a shuttered JCPenney store.

Night Shift's farm-to-table menu offers more than 20 local beers and food items like locally-sourced Wagyu burgers, savory short rib birria and crispy Detroit-style pizza with dough made in-house.

Providence was selected as Level99’s second location through the company’s strong relationship with Brookfield Properties, from which it leased its first location, and the demographic makeup of the city, officials said.

“Providence residents are mentally, physically and socially active,” said Level99 CEO Matt DuPlessie.

“The artistic nature of the city is a great fit for our experience. We worked with dozens of regional Rhode Island artists to transform an empty [JCPenney] into the open world of entertainment and discovery you can step into today.”
