Natick Native Signs With Providence Friars Hoops

PROVIDENCE, RI — Ryan Mela, a Natick-native currently enrolled at The Newman School in Boston, will stay close to home to continue his basketball career.

On Wednesday, Mela signed a national letter of intent to join the Providence Friars and Kim English for the fall of 2024.

Mela, a 6-foot-6-inch, 205-pound forward, averaged 19.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.3 steals for The Newman School during the 2022-2023 season.

In the summer with the Middlesex Magic on the Under Armour Circuit, Mela averaged 15.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

Before transferring to The Newman School, Mela attended Natick High School and averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per game in his final year there.

"We believe that he has the potential to be an impact player for us and will be a great addition to our roster next season, and for years to come. Ryan's humility, toughness, work ethic and talent make him a perfect fit for what we are doing here at PC."
