Natick Opens Cooling Centers Amid Extreme Heat

Temperatures could soar to the triple digits this week. Here's where Natick locals can beat the heat.

NATICK, MA — It's going to be a scorcher in Massachusetts this week, prompting Natick officials to activate cooling centers.

An extreme heat warning is in effect across Massachusetts through Tuesday night with temperatures expected to top 100 degrees for the first time in June in four years.

The National Weather Service said the "dangerously hot conditions" will include a heat index value of up to 110 degrees. The NWS issued the Extreme Heat Warning through Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Cooling locations in Natick include:

  • Morse Institute Library, Monday - Wednesday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Community Senior Center, Monday - Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
  • Natick Mall, Monday - Wednesday, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

The peak of the heat will be on Tuesday after a very warm Monday with highs in the low 90s inland and 80s right along the coast because of a sea breeze.

Temperatures will hover in the 70s with high humidity overnight into Tuesday, when a searing stream of hot air will funnel into New England. The NWS is calling for a high temperature of 102 degrees with a heat index of 109.
