Natick Student Receives Honor in Philanthropy

Here are 5 things to know in Natick.

1.Β The Helen Diller Family Foundation recently awarded 10 teenagers from across the nation with the 2013 Diller TeenΒ Tikkun OlamΒ Award in recognition of their leadership, innovation and commitment to making the world a better place. Recipients were honored with a celebratory luncheon at San Francisco’s Julia Morgan Ballroom, where each teen was awarded $36,000 in support of their philanthropic vision or to further educational pursuits.

Among them wasΒ Max Wallack, 17, of Natick, who createdΒ PuzzlesToRemember,Β a nonprofit that designs, collects and distributesΒ puzzles to serve as therapeutic tools for those living with Alzheimer’s. Max published a book for caregivers and, to date, has supported the distribution of more than 23,000 puzzles to 2,000 nursing facilities around the world.

2.Β The 2013-2014 skating season has begun atΒ William L. Chase Arena.Β Fall I classes begin the week of Sept. 9. Registration is available at www.fmcicesports.com.

3.Β Not sure what to do for your Labor Day weekend plans? Why not come spend time atΒ Belkin Family Lookout Farm.Β Enjoy the beautiful orchards, delicious fruit, and entertainment for the kids. Mike the Music Man will be performing shows from noon to 3 p.m.Β on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

4.Β Until Aug. 30, the Morse Institute Library will be helping the Natick Service Council Food Pantry through its "Food for Fines" program.Β 

Patrons may pay their overdue fines for Minuteman Library Network books and materials with new, non-perishable food or personal care items.Β 
This offer is not valid for damaged or lost library materials. Expired, unpackaged, or opened items cannot be accepted.

Bring in new, unopened items to pay your fines.Β 

Especially needed items are:Β 
  • peanut butter
  • jelly
  • bottled juice
  • cereal
  • crackers
  • tuna
  • spaghetti sauce
  • canned fruit
  • Hamburger Helper
  • coffee and/or tea
  • shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, and Natick trash bags.
Your donations will go directly to seniors, adults, and children in Natick who need our help.

Thursday:Β A mix of sun & clouds with an isolated PM shower---especially across the Worcester Hills as well as N.H. Cooler & less humid with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Friday:Β Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80 - warmest away from the coast.

Saturday:Β Partly sunny. Better chance for PM storms in the afternoon (for everyone except Cape Cod and The Islands). Low 80s.
