Veteran Newton Principal Tapped To Lead Natick Elementary School

NATICK, MA - Natick Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Anna P. Nolin on Friday named John Jordan as the interim principal at Johnson Elementary School for the 2022-23 school year.

Jordan brings a depth of experience to the position. He was most recently a principal in the Newton Public Schools for 31 years, serving at Charles E. Brown Middle School for 18 years and Countryside Elementary School the first 13 years of his tenure as a principal in the district.

“We’re excited to welcome Mr. Jordan to Natick and the Johnson Elementary family,” Nolin said. “His tenured career brings a wealth of outside expertise to NPS. He’s known for his care and compassion for his staff, he also has expertise as a math coach, and we look forward to having him with us this next school year.”

In addition to his administrative experience, Jordan also has taught mathematics, computer programming, and served as camp director for the Newton Community Services Center. Throughout his career, he’s served on various committees, councils, and implementation cohorts. He served on Newton’s district joint instructional council for 18 years, representing secondary school principals at meetings designed to address issues related to professional development, in-service training, and curriculum implementation.

Among his accomplishments, Jordan served on the middle school joint oversight committee for 18 years, working with central office administrators, principals, teachers, and the Newton Teachers Association president on issues related to collective bargaining.

Jordan has taken the initiative in addressing diversity, equity and inclusion in the Newton school system. He co-facilitated "Courageous Conversation About Race" for two years, leading sessions for faculty, staff and students on race and bias in schools. He also led a school-based initiative at the middle school to create an advisory program for grades 6-8. The program was in-service for five years following the creation of the group.

Jordan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education with a mathematics specialization from Boston University. He earned his master’s of education in administration, planning, and social policy with a concentration in schooling and school leadership from Harvard University.
