Well we all survived the first full week of the year. Â We have had some cool mornings and some hot afternoons but fall is clearly on its way. Â It's been great for our administrative team to get to know your students. Â
Classroom walkthroughs have given us an opportunity to see all the amazing work the students are engaged in and see the fantastic Wilson teachers in action. Â
This week, many curriculum departments have met to review state expectations and look at setting goals for the state evaluation system. Â These goals are directly linked to student learning. Â In addition, teachers are also looking at the new PARCC assessment tool and looking to find ways to incorporate the PARCC expectations into their current lessons and assessments. Â

BACK TO SCHOOL PARENT NIGHTS!
Parent Night for grades 5 & 6 is Thursday, September 19.  It starts at7pm.  This is an opportunity for parents (no students) to meet teachers and hear about the team expectations for the year.  Please keep in mind that this is a night for all parents and not for individual conferences about your child.  A separate meeting can be set up with the team if you wish to meet about your child.
STUDENT SAFETY REMINDER:
Parents, please remember to follow the parking lot drop-off and pick-up procedures. You must drive around the perimeter of the parking lot and drive all the way up to the crosswalk. This allows more parents to be able to get into the drop off and pick up location. Also, please have your son or daughter exit or enter the vehicle at the sidewalk side. We do not want students walking in the way of moving vehicles. Again, your child's safety is our priority. Thanks!
WMS Peer Leadership Program
7th and 8th grade students are encouraged to apply to be WMS Peer Leaders.  7th grade students attended an informational assembly today (Friday, 9/13) and 8th graders will attend the same assembly on Monday, 9/16.  Students were/are able to pick up applications at the end of the assembly, and the application is also posted in our virtual backpack.   Teacher recommendations and a student track record of behavior in keeping with our discipline code and core values are a part of the application expectations.  Teachers will send recommendations directly to the office.  Other program requirements are outlined in the application.   Final application, including teacher applications, are  due  at 8 a.m. on 10/3, to the main office. Did your child forget something at home? If you plan to bring items in to your child, please have them here by 10:45.  We will no longer be calling students down to the office in order to prevent classroom disruptions.  Students will be notified at lunchtime via a communication board in the cafeteria.  They will need to check the board and visit the front office for their forgotten items. If emergencies come up, exceptions will be made on an individual basis.  Â
After school building entry
Did your child forget something at school?  The building is open until 4pm each day. If your child forgets something and you want to have them pick it up, please have them return to the building before 4pm.  Unfortunately we cannot have students or parents enter the building after that time.  Although ASAP staff is in the building, they are responsible for the students they have in their care and are not permitted to allow others into the building. This is for the safety of our staff and students.  We appreciate your understanding.  Â
Parent Portal (iPass) Update
The recent update to the user interface for iPass requires the use of a current browser.  Be sure to use a current version of Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer 10.
The iPass upgrade was necessary for our district to get updated software for the online gradebook and the new features that are planned for release later this year from our vendor.   Do you shop at Stop and Shop? If so, please register your card to support Wilson.  Go to www.stopandshop.com/aplus to register.
Volunteers Needed! Laps after Lunch Program
Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday ---4 parents each day 10:45-12:25. You can volunteer on a weekly or rotating basis.  Prefer full slots...but would gladly accept 1/2 time slots. We also need substitutes to cover on an as needed basis. Role: supervise students on outside track around the building in fair weather as they walk, run, have informal outside time after they eat lunch. Please, no dogs accompanying volunteers.

(MRC) is looking for gently used games and new coloring supplies to be used in emergency shelters for disaster relief. We will be collecting these at Natick Days.  Please look for our table which will be located near town hall. All donations are welcome!  Â
ResilientParent, Resilient Child  Parent & Family Program Series
We are pleased to announce the 2013-14 Resilient Parent, Resilient Childspeaker series.  For the online brochure, please go HERE.  Topics addressed will include how to support student athletes, raise successful students and support global and digital citizenship.  All are welcome -- this series is for the whole community!  All programs will be held at Natick High School and are free of charge.  Check out the website at www.ResilientParentResilientChild.org.
