The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced Thursday that its contractor plans to realign Rte. 109 in Dedham and Westwood next week, tying the roadways into newly-constructed bridges over Rte. 128/I-95.

The realignment is set to begin on Monday, Nov. 3 and last for two weeks, with work expected to be completed on Friday, Nov. 14, MassDOT said in Thursday’s announcement.

The realignment efforts will result in the following, according to MassDOT:

  • The eastbound and westbound lanes of Rte. 109 will be temporarily re-aligned to the north at the ramps leading to and from Rte. 128 southbound and northbound.
  • The realignment will allow MassDOT’s contractor to complete drainage work, as well as embankment construction and roadway paving needed to make a connection of the temporary ramps to the new, elevated Rte. 109 roadway.
  • After the work has been completed, Rte. 109 traffic that moves along two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane will be “shifted onto the new, elevated alignment and bridges,” according to MassDOT.
  • MassDOT’s contractor plans to demolish and reconstruct the remaining Rte. 109 bridges over Rte. 128/I-95’s southbound and northbound lanes once traffic is shifted onto the new alignment and bridges.
