• Quiet Zone project revived (needhamobserver.com) — Needham officials are reviving plans for a Quiet Zone that could eventually curb train horn noise at five local crossings and near the Needham Golf Club, but only after costly safety upgrades and MBTA approvals. A separate proposal for a seasonal horn pause by the golf course is raising liability and safety questions, which the town is now carefully reviewing before any agreement is signed.
   

• Many hands make light work of boardwalk repairs (needhamobserver.com) — Needham residents played a key role in restoring a long-neglected boardwalk at nearby Cutler Park, making it safer for walkers, hikers, and bikers. Local NEMBA volunteers, Boy Scouts from Troop 10, and families spent two intensive workdays demolishing rotten sections, cutting new boards, and rebuilding a half‑mile stretch that should now last for decades.
   

• WMass Girls Basketball Roundup: Smith Voc. escapes with close win over Franklin Tech (masslive.com) — Needham High School’s girls basketball team notched a solid 57–43 win over Braintree in Thursday’s action, highlighted in a wider roundup of Western and Greater Boston matchups. Local fans can also scan how nearby rivals like Wellesley, Natick, and Walpole fared as early-season records start to take shape.
