Needham Girls Soccer Captures State Championship

The Lady Rockets capped off an undefeated season by winning their first state championship since 1984.

The Needham High School varsity girls soccer team captured the Division 1 state championship Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Algonquin High School.

The Lady Rockets traveled to Manning Field in Lynn for the title tilt, and they jumped out to a quick start. They scored two goals within the game’s first eight minutes. Needham’s superb defense held their opponent to just one goal, which came in the game’s final minutes.

In victory, Needham closed out an undefeated season and earned their first state championship since 1984. They posted a 22-0-2 record.

They defeated Weymouth, Mansfield, Bishop Feehan, and Whitman-Hanson while on the way to the championship win.

Needham made it a goal to win a state championship prior to the season’s start.
