Needham Police Log: Stolen Logos, Transformer Fall, and More

The following reports were provided by the Needham Police Department. Charges where mentioned do not indicate a conviction.


Monday, June 13

  • A Needham High School student told police she left her phone in the stairwell at school, before 7:30 a.m., and when she returned it was missing. 
  • Police dispatched to Shady Lane for a report of a crash with property damage. Front-end damage to the car, and insurance companies informed at about 4:15 p.m.
  • 4:30 p.m., police reported a stolen bicycle from outside of the Pollard Middle School. The bike is described as a yellow Magna 10-speed with a backwards-tilted seat post valued at $150. 
  • The emblem was torn off of a vehicle parked at a Great Plain Avenue business on Monday, at about 4:45 p.m.
  • Wingate Nursing Home reported a fight between two employees at about 5 p.m. Police arrived and spoke with the employees and their supervisor, who worked out an agreement about their work locations.
Tuesday, June 18
  • 8 a.m., police receive a report of a crash on Brook Road with downed wires. The driver reportedly hit the support wire on the pole, which snapped and fell into the roadway and across three other vehicles. A transformer fell into the roadway and spilled its contents on the ground. NSTAR and Verizon responded for the wires, and Clean Harbor for the transformer damage.
  • Two-car crash with injuries reported at Webster Street and Thorpe Road, after a driver says they looked both ways and attempted to cross traffic on the street, but was hit by another vehicle. The driver of one vehicle was cited for failing ti yield to oncoming traffic, and both vehicles were towed from the scene. One driver was taken to the hospital with head lacerations.
  • 11:15 p.m., police placed a Barbara Road resident into protective custody. 
Wednedsay, June 19
  • At about 12:45 a.m., police were informed of a party that had fallen asleep in their vehicle. Police spoke to the driver, who said that he had simply fallen asleep. He checked out, and required no medical assistance. He continued on to his home on Noanett Road.
  • A dispute broke out between a Verizon worker and a homeowner at about 10:30 a.m. on Charles River Street. A supervisor from Verizon came to the scene and worked with the homeowner to reach a resolution.
  • After running a check on a gray sedan on Highland Avenue, near the Rosemary Street intersection, police learned that the registry status was revoked because of canceled insurance at 11:45 a.m.. The driver, a 53-year-old Needham man was cited and summonsed for driving on a revoked registration, and having an uninsured vehicle. 
  • A High Rock Street resident reported that she had lost her passport, a Haitian one. She believes she lost it when moving from Waltham. She is notifying the Haitian consulate.
  • A Bonwood Road resident reported being the victim of identity theft at about 3 p.m.
  • 6 p.m., a Marked Tree Road returned home and found damaged rear windows, and a rock inside their window. 
  • A Hunnewell Street resident brought in a chainsaw belonging to a former friend, at abut 9 p.m.
  • While driving down Chestnut Street, police saw a car with a defective tail light. A query of the driver's information revealed that the registration had been revoked. The driver, a 48-year-old Norwood woman was cited for driving on a revoked registration and driving on defective equipment. The driver got a cab from the scene, and the car towed from the scene. Police destroyed the plates and handed her a citation.
