Needham Residents Named to BID Leadership Board

10 Needham residents were recently named to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital's Board of Trustees and Board of Advisors.

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham (BID–Needham) Tuesday announced that Needham residents Virginia Carnahan and Barry Coffman have joined the BID–Needham Board of Trustees and Michael Lombard, also of Needham, has been elected to serve as Chair of the Board of Advisors.

Seven additional Needham residents have joined the Board of Advisors, including Ginny Caggiano; Priscilla Dasse; Alain Eudaric; Paul Fleming; Joseph Li, MD; Kim Schawbel; William Yandow; and Carl Young.

“We are thrilled to add such a strong group of trustees and advisors this year. Each has strong roots in the community,” said Jennifer A. Pline, Chair of the Board of Trustees at BID–Needham. “Virginia and Barry are tremendous additions to the Trustees of BID–Needham and will offer valuable insights and expertise in finance, marketing and technology, as well as the community in which we serve. I look forward to working with all of our new members to help direct the hospital’s strategic direction for the future and to ensure BID–Needham continues to prosper.”

Virginia Carnahan

Virginia Carnahan is Vice President and Chief of Staff to the CEO at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a global biotechnology company that aims to discover, develop, and commercialize innovative new medicines. In her current role, she works with the CEO to coordinate internal and external business activities, including managing the Board of Directors meeting, enhancing global processes, and civic engagements with the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership and STEM activities. Previously, Virginia was responsible for the commercial strategy for the entire Vertex pipeline. Prior to Vertex, Virginia worked for Schering Plough Pharmaceutical in various marketing roles in the Oncology Biotech division. Virginia received a BA from Saint Mary’s College and a MBA from Duke University. A resident of Needham, she is married to David Carnahan and has one son. Virginia is a past member of the Board of Advisors and currently serves on the Marketing and Community Relations Committee and Gala Committee.

Barry Coffman

Barry Coffman is a member of Launchpad Venture Group, a Boston based angel investment group. He mentors, advises and serves as a board member for many local startup companies. Prior to joining Launchpad, he was the Co-Founder and Portfolio Manager of Boldwater Capital Management, a hedge fund investment firm, and prior to Boldwater, Barry was a portfolio manager for 15 years at Fidelity Investments. Barry is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and received his MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Barry and his wife Linda have lived in Needham for 26 years and have three children. Barry is a past president of the Needham Community Council, the current president of the Needham Sports Council, and a member of the Town of Needham Finance Committee. Barry previously served as a member of the Board of Advisors and currently serves on the Master Facilities Planning Committee.

Michael Lombard

Michael Lombard is Vice President of Servicing for Walker & Dunlop, where he is responsible for the servicing of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac multifamily loans in excess of $38 billion. Previously, he was Vice President of Asset Management at CWCapital LLC, where he managed credit risk on the firm’s primary servicing portfolio of commercial real estate loans worth approximately $16.9 billion. From 1991 to 2002, Michael worked for Arbor Commercial Mortgage in various positions in the Servicing and Capital Markets areas. Michael graduated with a BA in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross and received his MBA from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Boston Police Athletic League, and a member of the Board of Overseers of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. He lives in Needham with his wife Kim and two daughters. Michael previously served on the Board of Trustees of BID–Needham. He is Co-Chair of the Development Committee and member of the Gala Committee.
