Needham Woman 'Severely' Hurt, Rescued In NH's White Mountains
A woman hiking Sandwich Mountain in New Hampshire's White Mountains was rescued over the weekend, officials said.

WATERVILLE VALLEY, NH — A "severely injured" Massachusetts woman was rescued in the White Mountains over the weekend, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game. The 35-year-old Needham woman was hiking with a group of friends Saturday at about 2 p.m. when she "severely injured" her ankle after summiting Sandwich Mountain, according to Fish and Game Officer Jonathan Demler.
The hikers tried to make it back to their vehicle but progress was slow and they called 911, Demler said in a statement. A rescue party was dispatched and reached the woman at about 4 p.m. They arrived back at the trailhead by about 7:30 p.m. and the woman was hospitalized.
"The hikers were prepared with adequate clothing and equipment for the dropping temperatures and steady rain," Demler said in a statement. "Hikers in the White Mountains should be prepared for changing weather conditions and always have ... Hike Safe essentials."
