New Girls Basketball Head Coach at Needham High

Newton Behavior Therapist named Head Coach for Girls Basketball


The Needham High School Athletics department announced over the weekend that Amanda Sheehy would head up the varsity girls basketball team this season. 

She currently works in the Newton public school system as a behavior therapist, and hails from New Jersey. According to the announcement, Sheehy accepted a scholarship at Assumption College in Worcester for basketball, and earned a history degree with a minor in elementary education. 

For the last two years, she has been the assistant varsity coach for the Newton North High School team, and has coached at the Mass Huskies AAU program and MetroWest in Wellesley.

Says the announcement, "Coach Sheehy is eager to get started in her new role and looks forward to meeting all of the returning players, along with their families, in the coming weeks."

A few weeks ago, the school also announced a Jamaica Plain PE teacher, Michael Bertoni would come on as the head coach for boys hockey
