His positions in part included terms as chairman of the Board of Glover Hospital, chairman of the Needham Finance Committee and president of both the Needham Historical Society and the Needham Pool and Racquet Club. He was also honored to have been a long-term member and president of the Wardroom Club.

David leaves behind his wife Marie; his daughters Carol Devine and her partner Nick Passaretti of Holliston, Deb Devine and her husband Greg Kane of Walpole, Marcy McInerney and her husband Steve of Westford and Amy Buchanan and her husband Ed of Glenside, Penn.; and his grandchildren Lindsay and Kyle Pearson, John and Sarah Kane, Patty and David McInerney, and Tim and Matthew Buchanan.
