📰 News we're reading

1. Good night, and good luck: Chromasonic TV signs off (needhamobserver.com) — A Needham fixture is gone: after 45 years on Chestnut Street, Chromasonic TV has closed, and owner Dave Oberman has retired from repair work. The Needham Select Board recently honored him for decades of service, even as he continues selling TVs online and reflects on how his small shop shaped local lives and careers.

2. NHA Seabeds Way project poised to launch by summer (needhamobserver.com) — Needham’s Housing Authority is close to locking in financing for a $20 million overhaul of its Seabeds Way senior and disabled housing, with work potentially starting by late 2026. Residents can expect new all-electric systems, updated kitchens and baths, and major exterior repairs, though temporary relocations to other NHA units will be needed as each building is renovated.

3. Needham community helps ensure no pets go hungry (needhamobserver.com) — Needham residents and a local school resource officer are helping power a regional pet food drive that’s already passed the halfway mark toward 2,000 pounds of donations. Pet food dropped at the Needham Police Department lobby is collected regularly and will be distributed Dec. 21 in Medfield, helping families keep their cats and dogs through tough financial times.

4. Globe Top 20 girls' basketball poll: Who is No. 1 to tip off the season? (bostonglobe.com) — Needham High’s girls’ basketball team opens the season ranked 11th in the Boston Globe’s Top 20, signaling higher expectations after last year’s 12–10 finish. The poll highlights several regional powers, but Needham is viewed as poised to take a step forward.
