Town Meeting Will Consider Funds For Traffic Consultant

NEEDHAM, MA — Town Meeting representatives will vote on the next step in the effort to improve pedestrian safety.
Article 3 of the warrant for the May 14 Special Town Meeting will ask representatives to approve $100,000 for the hiring of a consultant to evaluate areas of concern that have been identified by the public and by town officials, and to review existing infrastructure in high traffic pedestrian areas, business districts, and schools.
The article also calls for a pedestrian safety audit to prioritize projects and to help the town obtain state funds for pedestrian safety improvements.

The article is part of the response following the deaths of Talia Newfield and Adrienne Garrido who were both hit by a car near Needham High School in February.
In March, the town held a pedestrian safety forum where residents told the selectmen where they felt were the most concerning areas for traffic are located.
