Needham High and Middle School sports schedule


7:30 to 10 p.m.: Needham Youth Center welcomes all 6th graders to the first Dance and Sport Night at Pollard Middle School, 300 Harris Drive. Parents are invited to stay for the first half hour of the event and will have the opportunity to meet the Youth Center staff that manages the events and the Youth Center Board that plan the activities. Youth Center event activities include music, dancing, sports, contests, and games. Admission is $8. Students can also purchase pizza for $2 a slice, candy for $1 and water for $1. Drop off and pick up is behind Pollard, off Bradford Street, by the gyms/cafeteria. Note that students may only enter and leave from this exit, and may only leave if an adult walks up to get them or they get into a car.Each student attending a Youth Center event must have a signed permission slip on record. Children may bring a signed copy of the permission slip to the Dance & Sport Night event.  For permission slip, policies and additional information, visit the Youth Center website.  


Saturday events:


11 a.m.: Volante Farms, 292 Forest St., Needham, will host the annual Customer Apple Pie Baking Contest today. To enter register on the Volante Farms website or with cashiers at the farm stand.

Rules:

  • One pie per entry

  • Pie must be 8″ or more in diameter

  • Apples must be purchased at Volante Farms

  • Contestant must provide recipe for filling and crust, as well as apple varieties used

  • Pie must arrive at Volante Farms by 10:45 a.m. Oct. 19

    • Judging will commence at 11 a.m., and after deliberation forks will be handed out so that audience can size the remaining pies up for themselves.


    Sunday events:

    1 to 4 p.m.: The Needham Family Dog Show will take place at Claxton Field, quarry location. Registration Information is available at owww.needhamdogpark.org and at the Needham Family Dog Show Facebook page.


    7 p.m.: Enjoy the complete works of William Shakespeare [abridged] at Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Ave., Needham. See a light-hearted adaptation of all of the bard's 37 classics in a two-act tour-de-force starring Needham resident Joshua Scharback along with Paul L. Coffey and Steven Kidd. Proceeds benefit the Guatemala Partnership. Tickets can be purchased at www.guatemalapartners.eventbrite.com or at the door.
