2 Newton Residents Make Forbes' Richest List

NEWTON, MA — Two of the wealthiest people in the US live in Newton, including the third-richest person in the state, according to the latest Forbes ranking of the US's top wealthiest.

Newton's two wealthiest are worth $9.5 billion together.

Forbes released its 2020 Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans Tuesday, and 13 Massachusetts billionaires made the cut, including two who live in Newton.

By way of comparison, Amazon's Jeff Bezos leads the overall list of 400 with a net worth of $179 billion, followed by Microsoft's Bill Gates at $111 billion and third is Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg at $85 billion. Tesla's Elon Musk was listed at No.7 with $77 billion.

Newton residents on the list, with their overall ranking and net worth:

85. Jim Davis and family, of Newton, $6.9 billion: Davis chairs New Balance, and his family owns 95 percent of the company.

327. Jim Koch, of Newton, $2.6 billion: 2020 was the first time Koch made the Forbes list. He founded and still owns 26 percent of the Boston Beer Company.
